The Park

The park is really nice, but are there only children in Pheasant Walk? What about the adults? We need tennis courts, basket ball courts and maybe even a public pool. Lets take care of everyone not only the children.

  1. The other day, I was in the park with my kids and there were 2 dogs roaming around without a leash and no owner, I think it’s about time we crack down on this problem in our neighborhood and give out fines to dog owner who ‘let their dogs out’ !

  2. It would be really nice to have a tennis court and maybe a basketball court, it is so big back there, I wonder if it can be done?

  3. Love the tennis court idea !

  4. The playground went in when there was a surplus in the budget due to Military Trail being widened and our landscaping budget being shelved during that time. I believe the total cost was $60,000.

Tennis courts and swimming pools sound greeat, but the investment and the ongoing maintenance requirements are cost prohibitive in this economy, especially with people struggling to pay the annual HOA fee. Also, the people who live on the park really don't want to hear the noise and think the playground is bad enough. Imagine trying to take a nice Sunday afternoon nap with a basketball and yelling 50 feet outside of your bedroom.

  5. well it's not like they didn't see the park when they bought the house..

  6. True, but it was not very developed up until about 10 years ago. It was overgrown with trees and brush. Even if the money was there, it would be an uphill battle with those who border the park.

  7. I wonder if the 10 homes that border the brush should have the final say, maybe it should be brought up with the next annual meeting in April as an up or down vote. Also, if there are no lights then it would be quite in the evenings and early morning. We should stick with a BB court and a tennis court. They would be one time costs with little overhead for the first 15 years.

  8. I meant to say "the ten homes that border the park" not the brush!

  9. Walking/jogging trails please

  10. That is a great idea, we should get those pull up things that they have on walks so you can do a full workout during the Jog/Walk each morning.

  11. YOU BOUGHT HERE BECAUSE IT WAS CHEAP. PUTTING IN TENNIS COURTS AND BASKETBALL COURTS, THEN THERE WILL BE A NEED FOR LIGHTS AND DON'T FORGET ALL THE MAINTENANCE TO KEEP IT IN GOOD CONDITION AND THEN SECURITY SO THE KIDS DON'T GRAFFITI, SO THEN FENCES AND LOCKS AND ON AND ON. PRETTY SOON OUR MAINTENANCE IS LIKE OTHER COMMUNITIES AND YOU CAN NO LONGER AFFORD TO LIVE HERE.

  12. Sure it'd be great, BUT who's paying for it? I certainly don't want to as I am one of the home owners who in this economy is struggling to pay the HOA fee. Personally I'd like to see the HOA fee reevaluated and possibly reduced.

  13. how about planting some shade trees and putting a nice path around the lake? that would be nice too. if you look at the pbc tax appraiser office web site, you can see that the community property looks like half to two thirds of the land between the water line and the brick. that would be so nice to stroll along the lake under shade trees; water is calming. then we wouldn't all have to basically stand on the dock for 15 seconds before leaving.

  14. p.s., tennis courts and basketball courts are too expensive to maintain. next thing you know, a bump in the pavement causes someone to fall and then we're being sued

  15. True about the tennis courts, but an exercise trail would not be too costly, especially with we use sod instead of cement or tar?

  16. I vote for the exercise trail! it can go all around the lake, across pheasant way down to the park! AND it will stimulate neighborhood watch kind of activity as folks make their way around the neighborhood circuit. how hard could that be... mulch trails a couple of NATIVE trees... nows the time to plant such things

  17. I don't know who thought the park was put in 10 yrs. ago. I've lived here for 24yrs. and the park was already there. The equipment was wood initially, and upgraded as the wood deteriorated.

The park was cleared of invasive exotics a few years ago, and really should be properly planted, just to prevent invasive plants from taking hold again and running our association another expense.

I took a look at the lake, and was really upset. 10 years ago we had plants at the shoreline and the lake was being maintained by our community. It looks horrible now. What happened to the shoreline maintenance? When was it dropped and why. As I drove in to the community I was looking at the plantings along the main drag.. and they aren't looking too good. There's little to no mulch there. Many of the plantings are either leggy, or have sparse vegetation. In order to make the budget work, programs in place to benefit the landscaping have been done away with. Why would the management company send letters to homeowners on having weedy lawns when the communities common way has a ton of weeds? Not right. Not nice.

  18. They didn't say the park was put in 10 years ago, they said it was developed e.g. clear cut.

It would be great to be able to walk along the lake and have a path around the park. But those homeowners (park and lake) will fight it tooth and nail unless the majority of us, who don't live on the lake and park, push for it.

But remember everything has a cost. We could do alot with the park etc. if we got rid of the Sheriff Deputy at $116k per year. None of them has ever caught a burglary in progress. And they don't even have a radar gun for speeders. Our crime is very low in the community and it doesn't justify a Deputy.

  19. i live on the park. i vote for paths on both the park and the lake.... preferably SHADED paths. luckily, we live in FL so shade should be no problem to plan and execute at low expense.

don't agree with your take on the deputy

You would have to be crazy to put in Basketball courts. Notice the new park in Boca off Spanish River has NO basketball courts? there is a reason. The costs to maintain plus having possible outside people come in and use/abuse along with associated violence is way more trouble than its worth. We are a couple blocks from Patch Reef that has ample facilities.

The Sheriff does nothing more than catch speeders for the most part, but better to have him roaming the area and possible prevent a crime than leave that dark road in and out of the community unprotected.
