We are so lucky to live in a community with reasonable HOA fees. Most of the surrounding communities pay a lot more money just to live in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteIn this economy i'm curious if it is it not more cost effective to incorporate into the city and pay city taxes rather than HOA dues? I would think the benefits of being part of Boca Raton would help to raise property values when trying to sell your home as well as give you access to other recreational perks of being part of the city.
ReplyDeleteYeh, like the library right on spanish river is so close but we can't even use it. we are county outcasts.
ReplyDeletethen again how much extra would those boca city taxes be?
And the yearly beach access
ReplyDeleteSort of difficult to respond to an anonymous.. but as I understand it if we were to incorporate in to the city and pay taxes.. we would also have different utilities to pay. Additionally, we would still be responsible for our association dues. The dues pay for the maintenance of the common property, the property management, the sheriff patrol for security.. I'm certain there is more. I do not know if being part of the city would raise our property values. That would be best answered by a realtor. I wonder if a board member representing the community with a list of homeowners interested in using the city's library, went to the city council, might we be able to work something out. Maybe if a small fee was collected to participate at the library. Who knows? Joy
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that becoming a part of the City of Boca would entitle them to enforce their stricter standards in terms of code enforcement on our community. I recall many contractors questioning if the permitted work would be reviewed by the County or City of Boca when I was getting quotes for work on my house.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else think it's strange that we hire someone to power wash the public sidewalk along Pheasant Way? I can understand doing it as needed, but every single year? And it's always the same person. The job is never put out for competitive bid. Those sidewalks are, after all, publicly maintained and not "common areas" as per our Covenants.
ReplyDeleteWhat bothers me the most about living in Pheasant Walk isn't the HOA fees it's the lack of assistance by the HOA to rectify issues with neighbors that have poor living habits. Prime example is my neighbor has a pond surrounded by cluster dead palm trees which has become a haven for rats. I have seen rats running my fence top and now I am seeing them on my patio. I do not want to take this into my own hands for various reasons such neighbor has dogs so poisoning them wont be in the best interest of the dogs, and neighbor relations are already on rocky ground due to personality traits.
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions?
My suggestion would be to offer to help him trim or pay for a landscaping service to remove the dead trees. No dead tree = no where for rats to nest. Please don't leave poison as many peoples outdoor pets could be affected.
